Hey Savages, it's Kim here to remind you about the ongoing challenges for the month of December. The beginning of the month means the start several new challenges. This month is was different, even with the holidays. A few challenges have been "altered" a bit this month to accommodate every one's hectic schedule.

The first one is the Swirly Girl Challenge (SGC). This is a monthly member hosted challenge. Our Swirly girls manage to come up with some of the most interesting challenges that push you out of your creative comfort zone. This challenge is open to everyone as well.

This months challenge is being hosted by Swirly Savage Linda. Linda decided to change up the challenge a bit month so as not to stress any one out. She just wants you to share what you are doing this holiday season. How wonderful is that? If you happen to be crafting, that's even better.

The requirements for this challenge are: Share with us your cards, the gifts you're making, a poem you love, a special you tube, concerts that you go to.... you get the idea. Whenever you have a spare minute - stop and share a little bit of what's going on in your life, with us!

Some of our Swirly sisters have been happily decorating their homes for the holidays. Please stop by the forums here to see the beautiful decorations they have shared in this challenge.

Look at some of JeannieV's beautiful decorations:

The December Round Robin Challenge has started. This is another challenge that is open to everyone, you just have to look for the sign ups when they roll around. The round robin is always a guessing game. Each week it is exciting to see the new "lift" of the layout the week before.

This months round robin has changed a bit too. Instead of it being a layout challenge, we are making tags. Just to take a bit of the stress off.

The requirements for this challenge are: For this month, we’re going to say “anything goes”: please feel free to use whatever you have at hand. (This may be a good way to use leftovers from card making!)

Check out some of these gorgeous tags:

Andie

Mellisa

Today is the last day for entries into the All that Flutters challenge. This challenge is hosted by DT member Angelica and is always a lot of fun. The members create gorgeous layouts/projects for this challenge.

The requirements for this challenge are: Using the Beloved Kits create a layout, project, or card using anything that flutters. i.e butterflies, dragonflies bees, ladybugs, birds, fairies...etc!

Here are some of the wonderful entries from this challenge:

Jan

Ginny

Today is also the last day to enter the Beloved Sketch Challenge. This is our monthly sketch challenge. Each month subscribers get a sketch with their kit, but the sketch is also posted on the website/blog for non-subscribers.

The sketch challenge is open to everyone and you don't have to use a kit to participate either. It is always fun to see how everyone interprets the sketch.

The requirements for this challenge are:  All you have to do is create a layout based on this sketch using any supplies you want by December 15th and upload HERE to be eligible to win a fantastic prize!
This is the sketch:

This week's layout is Melisa's beautiful wedding layout. It romantic and shabby and ever so pretty! I love the swag that Mellisa created along the top. Her background stamping and masking adds background interest and texture. Congrats Mellisa!

Hi =) Today I have a tutorial for you. Hope you want to join in and follow all my pictures... It´s several of them =). First a photo of the finnished canvas...

It´s a bit of winter as well as of christmas.

My camvas is 6x6 canvas... so it´s quite a small one. I first start to measure on my canvas and mark with a pen so the square is in the middle. Then I cut out the square in the canvas with a  scalpel. After that is done I put a layer og gesso on it and dry it.

Then it´s time to do some more measuring on the back of the canvas. I measure how wide and deep  the hole on the back is, so I can make a small box. On my canvas it was 3 inch wide and 1 inch deep.

Then I cut out a square that is 5 inch. mark 1 inch from each side and cut in like it shows in the picture. Now it´s time to glue the box.

The other side of the paper is dark blue and that is the color I want to be shown in front so I fold my box and glue the ends, so I get I box like the one below....

Now i glue the angel and some flowers and leaves in the box.. like this =)

Time to go back to the canvas...

I spray some Lindys mist allover the canvas and use my heater to dry it.

Then I take a stencil and modelling paste on it... and use my heater again ;)

When it has dried I take my needle and some blue thread and sew around the hole to frame it.

Now I put my little box i the hole and use tape to put it in place. I only had masking tape at home, but I will change that to a better tape that is more sticky. So if you feel you want to try this tutorial... use a better tape ;)

Now it´s time to decorate the front of the canvas. For that I use a piece of chipboard on which I put a coat of white gesso on. Then i put some clear gesso on the birds and leaves...

Here the clear gesso works as a glue for the micro beads. When I have put the micro beads on I use anoteher thin coat of clear gesso on them.

I don´t want the branch to be white so I put a coat of Inklings on it.

When this is done... I can glue down all my embellishments.

The last touches are made with gold paint... some splashes here and there.
READY =)

Thanks for taking your time!

How could I resist this adorable sweet photo with these colors that so perfectly enhance the photo?

Cheryl has done an amazing job with these bright and beautiful papers. Congrats to Cheryl for this layout of the week.

Keep adding your layouts to the gallery, and you too could be featured!
What would Swirlydoos be without our wonderful subscribers?!? It's a pleasure getting to know these ladies on the forums and from the stories they tell through their layouts. Yes,we are an amazing community, but most of all, we're a family! We appreciate each and every member and they deserved to be spotlighted. With that being said, our featured member for December is.....

Sue Kendrick

Here is a bit from Sue

I have been crafting ever since I can remember.  My Mother hated crafts of any kind, so I must have gotten it from my Dad.  Knitting has been a passion since I learned in a Camp Fire Girls class at the age of 11.  My crafting time has always been "stolen time," when I should have been studying, working, cleaning house, or whatever.  Six years ago, I got divorced and retired (both happily) and moved out of Miami.  I am now able to spend my time taking crafty classes in such things as weaving, kumihimo, knitting, and papercrafting, and my home is one giant craft studio.

I have two sons, one here in Crawfordville and one in Tacoma, WA.  No grandkids, which is fine.  Both sons are happy and healthy.  My adorable, spoiled cats keep me company when I stay up all night, and they cuddle up when I sleep all morning.

I was introduced to scrapbooking via Creative Memories about 15 years ago.  Recently, I have been disappointed to see scrapbooking move toward the Project Life style, but searching the internet, Swirlydoos popped up.  I have been a member for about a year and a half now.  My favorite things are cards, tags, and making books.  I do love the vintage, distressed, elegant Swirly style.  I found a great rubber stamp at a shop in Santa Fe, NM, that says it all:  "This isn't art.  I just like to make stuff."

Here are a some of my favorite projects of Sue's, sure to inspire you!!

Please come back and visit every first Sunday of the month to see who our next featured member will be! We love our Swirlygirls!!

This weeks LOTW goes to Paula C. Paula created this beautiful layout for the Nov. RR.

I loved this kit and Paula used it so wonderfully to highlight her family picture. I love the flower cluster going down the side. It draws your eye directly to the photo. Paula also created great layers with the tags that came with the kit.

Congrats Paula.

"The bride"

My little girl with rosy cheeks
and precious baby ways,

Has grown into a woman now,
what happened to the days?

The days I held you close to me
and counted little toes,

and whispered how much you meant to me,
wondering if she knows.

Today, as I look back in time
as you stand there by his side,

Those memories I hold with new ones now
of my daughter as a bride.

Hello Swirly Sisters! I hope you had a very festive Thanksgiving!

It's my turn today to share some more projects I made using the November kit, Beloved. This was such a beautiful kit to work with. One you must have!

This is the layout I made for the DT challenge. We all scrapped the same photo and had the gals guess. Did you guess correctly? A huge thank you to our Pegs for sharing her priceless photo with us. This was definitely a fun challenge and I hope we get to do it again soon.

The Kasiercraft Rusty Harmony pattern papers are so gorgeous. I couldn't chose between what sheets I should use. So, I cut strips from left over scraps and one of the sheets that had like 6 designs, distressed then layered them.

For my final project I made a shadow box canvas.  I made plenty of layers for that 3D effect.
