I love travel layouts! This one by Hanne is awesome!
The design is detailed yet it lets the pictures take center stage! The tipped smaller square pictures really draw your eye to the larger photo. The embellishments are just perfect for the theme!
Congrats, Hanne!

So, I'm back with another edition of "Scrap your Scraps" today. I was down to the last bits of paper of the August kit and wanted to share my final layout with you. Usually the last bits of a kit lend a more CAS layout or a grungy layout. But, this time I was able to do a "swirly" style layout as I still had some flowers left over from the flower add-on this month.

Here's what I had on my messy, scrappy table to start.

Now, I only have two good size pieces of paper left. I did find some smaller strips by my cutter later. Just start playing around with the larger pieces, maybe cut them up to make them look like they are actually larger. I do this a lot with my paper to make it go farther. Just make sure you line up the design in the same direction if you cut the paper!

Of course, distress the edges and ink them up. Now, on to some more paper layering. Remember, you can use the cardboard from the box your kit came in to pop up the paper layers.

I added some Smooch Black to the background before laying down the yellow pieces. I just unscrew the top and pull out the spritzer. Then, just use the spritzer to splash color on the page. I usually don't actually use the spritzer nozzle to spray on my pages. Also, added a tad of gold glitz with a rub-on from the embellishment add on. The black trellis is actually a die cut. (Thanks to Kim for letting me borrow the die while we were at camp!)

Next, I popped up the picture on some more of that free cardboard and began adding banners and fiber.

Next, add the vines using the die from the die add on this month. Top the vines with the remaining flowers.

Still needs something...
I added some stickers from the sticker sheet, a butterfly that I had left over from punching it for a previous layout, and that blingy yellow heart.

Now, title or journaling?

Using one of the journaling cards, I added,"I had 2 tickets to the Rams' football game. Brandon didn't want to go, so Allison went. We had fun until the game was over and I couldn't find the car!"

Yes, you read that right! I could not find the car. It was late at night and we were by ourselves. We finally found a police officer who pointed us in the right direction. Thirty minutes after the game was over we finally found the car! What a night!

Finally found my flowers--still packed from Swirly camp. Had to add more flowers!

Well, that is the end of my kit. Anxiously waiting for the next gorgeous kit to arrive.

Thank you for visiting the Swirlydoos blog today! I would love to see what you scrap with the scraps of your kit!

Peggy’s Swirly Girl Challenge about favorite books is really getting some great submissions! I just fell in love with this one by Ginny!
I just love this design! From the layers to the stencilling, this is such a sophisticated page! The placement of embellies is great, and I love the picture of the book! Congrats, Ginny!

Hi everybody! I have been working some more with the amazing July kit, Belle Fleur, and have one more layout to share. I simply adored this kit!!

And, this will also be my last DT-project for Swirlydoos. I have had so much fun designing for this fantastic kit club, the best kit club ever!! I will continue as a member of the club and hang around the forum, so this is not a good bye.

Anyway, here is my layout:

I did a lot of paper layering, stamping, misting, stenciling and painting on this page. The chipboard gates was painted white, stamped on using the stamp from the embellie add-on, and finally painted with clear gloss varnish.

A couple of close-ups for you:

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you have got some inspiration!

xoxo

Hello Savages! Today I have a quick and easy tutorial to share on how to make your leaf dies 3-dimensional.

You can use any leafy vine you like. For this tut. I use the (spoiler alert) August Die of the month, Spellbinders Romantic Vines. If your perma you should be getting your die really soon! If not, check out the boutique on reveal day, August 25th.

Step 1:

Cut out your dies using a thick white cardstock.

Step 2:

When coloring white cardstock I always like to use a light mist to get a variegated look.

Step 3:

Mist with a green shade.

Step 4:

As you can see I used Heidi Swapp Mist and Silks Paints. I used the paint on just the tips of the leaves along with some hand tinted glitter glass.

Close up of the details

Step 5:

When the vine are partly dry use a paint brush and wrap the tips around. You can also pinch and roll.

Also lift the swirls

When they are completely dry it will hold the shape.

Hope you can put this tutorial in use on your next project!

There were LOTS of posts in the gallery this week- YAY! One layout really stood out to me, and it was this one:
This is one of Cheryl’s amazing layouts she did at camp last week. I was lucky enough to see this in person, and peek in on her process! I love the soft, subtle look of this layout! It immediately draws your eye to the picture and and then you start to notice all the wonderful details, from the layers and flower placement to the stenciling and die cut border, this layout was perfectly executed! Congrats, Cheryl!

I have some tips and tricks for how I like to arrange a mini album, giving it an introductory page:

Some ideas for adding dimension but keeping the book "flat" enough to close:

And some ways to add some interactive elements:

I hope you get a chance to check out the video! And, if you are a subscriber, and you get the project add on, we'd love to see what you do with it, so share it in the forums and in the Facebook gallery!

There was some stiff competition for LOTM, but this stunning layout created by Ginny H is our winner. Ginny created this layout based on our sketch of the month.

Here gorgeous clustering and perfect use of mixed media is really what caught the judges eye. Not to mention her great use of all the other embellishments.

Great job Ginny and congratulations.

Oh my word, I was just blown away by this layout! It caught my eye as I was scrolling through my FB feed, and I must have stared at it for at least three minutes before commenting!
Our layout of the week belongs to master scrapper, Miss Peggy G.!
I love everything about this! The design is stunning! I love the placement of the paper frame cut outs, and that fan- Oooooo! Doesn’t that look amazing? I love the floral clusters too!
If I were still a teacher, I would have to have this for my classroom for Jane Austen season! Which is another reason I love this so much- this is also Peggy’s example for the SCG challenge she’s hosting this month, and I love it! You can check it out here: http://www.swirlydoos.com/forums/topic/august-2015-sgc-excellent-books/
Congrats, Peggy!
