Hi there! Today I have two new layouts to share, made with the stunning January kit - Bejeweled - from Swirlydoos. This kit has been absolutely amazing to work with! The papers are the most beautiful papers I have seen in years, and the embellishment Krissy picked out for this kit are fantastic - everything works perfectly together!
You can see the kit and add-ons HERE.
I have also a tutorial for you today, showing how I created the background on one of the pages, using several mixed media products combined with papers and embellies from this kit and add-ons.
Here's my first page:
I have used one of the beautiful papers from Blue Fern Studios Sanctuary collection, and then built up some layers in the middle using tags from the embellishment add-on, doilies and small pieces of left-over paper. The background was made using a stencil, gesso, clear gesso and mists. For tips, look at my tutorial further down.
Lots of gorgeous flowers from the kit and flower add-on! I adore the Petaloo Ephemera!
Here's my next page:
I just love the butterflies from Art Anthology! They come in many sizes and there was so many in the package that you can use lots and lots and still have tons left :)
Loving the Prima resin birds too!
And now for the background tutorial. I took lots of pics when I made this background, so I hope you can follow my creative process. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask - here on the blog or in the Swirlydoos forum :)
I started with a piece of the Garden Plaza paper, that I had left from making another layout. This paper has a beautiful, bright and bold pattern, which sometimes can be hard to cut and scrap. But if you put on a thin layer of white gesso on, the pattern still shows through and you can add embellishment without getting a too busy page.
I added a thin layer of white gesso across the paper, using an old plastic card.
After the layer of gesso, I used a stencil and some texture paste, creating a pattern in the top and bottom.
I glued some of the Art Anthology butterflies across the page.
I then used a large brush, and painted a layer white gesso over the butterflies.
After the gesso had dried, I used the same stencil as before and with some clear gesso I created more pattern. It's important to use clear gesso last, to get the effect I'll show you next.
After drying the clear gesso with a heat gun, I misted here and there (and made some drips too) with pink and silver mists. I also let the ink run a bit.
I then used a dark purple mist (Primas colorbloom Pressed Petals) and sprayed a couple of times. This color is very intense, so I didn't want too much of it. Just a couple of sprays. I then took a small brush and let the three different mists blend. The clear gesso let the ink blend beautifully together!
My next step was to cut the paper and distress the edges. I glued the paper on another Sanctuary paper, Botanical Garden, and added pieces of cheese cloth (from the embellie add-on) underneath.
I then cut the edges of this paper too, distressed the edges and put strips of one of the BoBunny papers, Shadow Vintage, underneath.
As a final touch, I used the BoBunny stamp from the main kit and randomly stamped using black ink. Below you can see a close-up of the background, and the cute little butterflies:
There you go! A mixed media background with lots of texture from gesso, texture paste and the butterflies. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial :)
Have a great day!
xoxo

Hello Savages! Angelica here sharing two more projects using the January Bejeweled Kit. I can't say enough good things about the BFS pattern paper. I really love the thickness so you can do as much mixed media you like and still keeps it's shape. Here I went with girly grunge again.
I made a mini tag album with left over bits of paper. The tags came in the Embellie Add-on. As did the resin birds. If you like embellishments with Embellie Add-on is a must have!
Here are the three tags.

Hey you Swirly Savages, it's Kim here to share more projects I created using the January *Bejeweled* Kit. I love the elegant papers in this kit from Blue Fern Studios. You could do so much with them, masculine, grungy, shabby. Today I chose to go feminine with them.
I found this photo of my niece right after she was born (she will be 11 next month). I thought it went great with these papers. I didn't do much to the background, these papers don't need much to enhance them. I brushed on a bit of silks in Ice once the layout was complete to add a bit of shine.
The chipboard pieces are from my stash. I used some perfect pearls and embossing powder on them. The title was cut using my cameo (yes I actually used it, and it was easy).
Cutting the title was a bit feat for me. LOL!
My next project for this month was created using the Color Lab Project add on kit. This is an amazing system. You can create your own custom color mist. Plus there is a canvas and mistable flowers and ribbon in the kit.
I created what I will call a serenity canvas. I created 3 different shades of Teal green. 1 light, 1 dark and 1 with a shimmer.
I did some masking on the canvas first, then using the mist sprayed using the lightest to the darkest. I dried each layer in between mist.
I misted my flowers the same way, using the mist in layers. I never used all one color on the flowers. I wanted a varied color throughout.
Once everything was dry, I just started adding the embellishments. I used aged white embossing powder on the Serenity chipboard piece (from my stash). The Prima resin pieces and leaves are all from my stash as well. I sprinkled the leaves with a bit of diamond dust and called it done.

Hi there! It's a fabulous Saturday and I hope you are getting some scrappy time in this weekend! Today, I'm sharing an altered frame I made using the January kit, Bejeweled, and a cheap wood frame from Michaels.
Making the background was really easy, and even though it didn't come out as I expected, I'm very happy with the results.
I used mists, a stencil and clear gesso, and I have a start to finish video on how I created the finish on the frame, along with how I designed and added the finishing touches to it.
I hope you get a chance to watch it. Thanks for stopping by!

The Swirlydoos Kit Club January Embellishment kit includes a Graphic 45 Staples tag album and you know how much I love tags! Of course, I had to make a tag album with the fabulous Blue Fern Sanctuary papers featured in the kit. I used the cut apart Calling Cards paper as the theme for my tag album and chose some sentiments from the Heidi Swapp Word Jumbles stickers, also in the Embellishment kit.
Here is the cover that I embellished with flowers from the Flower Kit as well as some roses from my stash.
I took the album apart to photograph the rest of hte pages so that you could see all the details. The main kit includes a set of Bo Bunny stamps and I used one of those stamps to stamp the bird cage and fussy cut it.
Flowers and lace from my stash.
The bird on the branch is a Prima wood icon, from an earlier kit, roses and doily from my stash, the lace flower and dangles are from the main and flower kits.
I embossed a Sizzix frame with aged gold embossing powder.

The lace flower is from the Flower kit. It was white but I misted it to change the color.
