I have to say, there were so many lovely layouts posted to the gallery this week. I knew all week that this was going to be a tough decision- you all do such amazing work, and I think this is probably the most active I've seen the gallery all month! I was pretty sure I had this figured out, then Peggy posted this stunner yesterday, and I had to rethink who to select this week:
First off, this picture would steal anyone's heart! Sophia kissing her brothers in mommy's tummy is just the sweetest thing! This is so perfectly executed! I love how Peggy interpreted the sketch, which may be the best sketch ever. The colors meld with the pic, and the tiny pops of blue, paired with those dainty vines help make this the masterpiece that it is!
Congrats, Peggy!

Water color paper is big in scrapbooking and mixed media right now. So it's only fitting that Krissy included two pieces of Tattered Angels Pure Mistable papers in our tech kit this month with the gelatos. These papers feel phenomenal!! They are gorgeous and so much fun to work with. Here I show you how gelatos, Glimmer mist, and Dylusions all reacted with the paper.
Thanks for stopping by and have a GREAT weekend!!

Yesterday, Barbara post a fabulous layout that she made using the July sketch:
The colors on this layout are truly stunning- the pop of green from the flowers is so lovely, and draws your attention to the picture of Barbara's parents right away. And, then you start noticing all of the amazing details like the circle with the eyelets (super lovely!), the fabulous cheesecloth peeking from out the clusters, and the MASKING- oh my! Love the bird cages, and those branches. Perfectly executed! Congrats Babrbara! You knocked this one out of the park!

Happy Saturday to you all! This month we've been sharing our best techniques using gelatos, so I hope you are soaking it in, and trying them out for yourself. We have one more for you today, focusing on the joy of the white gelato with masks! So, take a peek at the video tutorial to see how you can do this simple, yet awesome technique:

Are you loving this kit as much as I am? It seems like these pages just scrap themselves!! (That's what I said about the last kit too:) I'm going to have to admit....I think this is definitely one of my mostest favoritest swirly kits to date. Especially with these gelatos. There is so much you can do with them!!! Today I have a video to share 2 gelato techniques with you.
The first technique that I'm going to show you how to do is to paint with gelatos. I'll show you how I created this gorgeous flower from my LO I shared last Saturday.
The second technique that I'll show you is how to create a gradient color using gelatos dry, as I did on this bird cage

It's Saturday and that means it's time for another technique video here at Swirlydoos. This week I show you how to turn your gelatos into a mist and create a background with them that actually mimics papers in the kit this month! Why would anyone want to do that?! So that we can hoard the actual papers silly!!!
I adore the Sunrise Sunset collection but could not bring myself to use an entire piece to cover up in the background. Instead, I used gelatos to create the faded and grungy effect that I love so much.
So now that I've aired my dirty laundry it's your turn. Come over to the forum and share your most SHAMELESS paper hoarding story/habit.
Another way to use Gelatos is to paint with them. Here I focused on a flower I created using Stazon ink, gelatos, and the Lindy's mint color that cam in the kit. Make sure that if you are coloring with water based products your stamped image is stamped in ink that is NOT water based. The fly and postage are rub on's from the kit as well.
Here I took a closeup of the edge of the paper. You can see where I stamped as well over my background using the Gelatos.
Here's a closeup of the upper corner.
And here's the video where I created this background!
Using Gelatos as a mist and other Gelato techniques
Hope you give these techniques a try!!!
Happy Saturday all!!

This week we want to call special attention to this beautiful layout made by Carolyn (Meowgal). Obviously a cat lover, Carolyn has created a feline masterpiece:
While the "Baby Boy: is the best looking thing on the page, Carolyn manages to showcase him using the Brass Shilling kit following the monthly sketch in such a gorgeous way- from the very fitting angel wings to the beautiful way she placed the lace- this deserves to be framed!
Congrats, Meowgal!

What would Swirlydoos be without our wonderful subscribers?!? It's a pleasure getting to know these ladies on the forums and from the stories they tell through their layouts. Yes,we are an amazing community, but most of all, we're a family! We appreciate each and every member and they deserved to be spotlighted. With that being said, our featured member for July is.....
*Barbara Pollack* aka. palapala
Here is a bit about Barbara:
Hi everyone, I am so happy for this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. I live with my husband of 43 years and my youngest son who was born with Down Syndrome. Our older Son and our beautiful 6 year old Granddaughter live nearby. We are retired and enjoying our many hobbies, fortunately for me my husbands’ hobby is photography (And cooking…TeeHee! are ya jealous yet?) We love gardening, boating, traveling, entertaining friends and family, walking our dog Lucy and taking pictures of it all. I have boxes of beautiful pictures that we have taken over the years. I have told myself I have to scrapbook…oh, but it seemed so overwhelming. Then I saw what the DT was doing with pictures at Swirlydoos and was blown away! Such artistic creations! I had to give it a try. I joined Swirlydoos in January of 2012. One by one I would pick a picture from our boxes and digital archives and now I have many wonderful albums of our past memories. I could quit now…mission accomplished…but no, it has become a part of me. The wonderful friends I have made in the forum mean so much to me. The inspiration I get from the challenges gives me ideas I could never think of on my own. I love it here! As for my style I would say I am still searching for it! I love it all…fussy cutting, adding the mediums to extend the pictures, using the gorgeous papers and layering. It is such a fabulous hobby, always changing and evolving.
Thank you Swirlydoos, you give more than I ever imagined! and DT you are the best!
Here are a some of my favorite projects of Barbara's, sure to inspire you!!
Please come back and visit every first Sunday of the month to see who our next featured member will be!Saturday, July 6, 2013
We are sooooooooo excited!!!! We have the lovely and uber-talented Gerry van Gent guest designing with our Swirlydoos July collection!!! Gerry will be a part of our blog hop on July 8th. Make sure to come back and check her out.
For those of you who don't know who Gerry is (please come out from under your rock), here is a little somethin'-somethin' about our girl!
Gerry was born and
raised in Bulgaria but since 2002 she has been living in The
Netherlands. She is happily married to her Dutch husband and has two
children who are often smiling on her projects.
Gerry has been always
busy with her hands - knitting, embroidering, drawing, playing the
piano, etc. When her first child was born the photos were overloading the
photo boxes and she was wondering what to do with them. She found out
about scrapbooking on Internet and was impressed. Since 2009 she got
seriously involved into scrapbooking and since then paper crafting takes
an important part of her life.
Nowadays she designs
for leading companies in the paper crafting industry like Webster`s
Pages, Prima Marketing, Sizzix Europe and Imaginarium Designs, has been
published in magazines and catalogues, loves teaching her artsy
passion.
You can find out more about
Gerry`s Scrappy Life on her blog:
Welcome to Swirlydoos Gerry!!!! (ppssst...wait until you see her gorgeous work with our July collection......*swoon*)
