Spring Grunge ATC's By Heather Thompson

Hi all. I want to share a set of ATC's made with Swirlydoos May Kit "Spring Grunge". This kit has so much fun stuff in it. So many possibilities with it.
ATC Swrilydoos.gif
Along with a short video tutorial on my creative process, I have some close ups of the Cards. These ATC's can be so addicting to make.
Insert Video here.

The fun part is you can make as many as you want and they all can be different.

And by just adding some small element from my stash I have these fun ATC's with some mixed media techniques.

I added paste from the Project kit and added it to the stencil. I used plain gesso, and dabbed through another stencil to get the pops of white.

Using the Inkgold from the mediums kit, I highlighted the metal portions of the cards to make them shine more.

I hope you enjoyed and if you haven't played around making some ATC's I highly recommend it. I have slowly expand my collection of ATC's from fellow artists around the world.

Happy Monday everyone!
Peggy here with a few Challenge Highlight updates to get your mojo going.

DT Coordinator Kim has been designing some incredible sketches for us; here's what she's come up with for the "Spring Grunge" kit.

Cheryl used the sketch to scrap photos of her talented granddaughter; I just love her take on the frames:

Kim has created an album on our Facebook Gallery page here. I can't wait to see  YOUR gorgeous take!

The ATF (All That Flutters) Challenge has always been my favorite and now it's even more so because the hostess is ME!!!
We're doing things a bit differently; our dates will coincide a bit more with our actual kit releases and there will be a RAK given out at the end of each Challenge to one lucky winner selected by random draw. Curious? I've posted all of the details here in the Forum.
Our Swirlydoos Design Team members have created some amazing layouts to inspire you!
Here's Kim's stunning page:

And from Jan - could anything this gorgeous be any cuter?

The Round Robin is taking a well-deserved vacation. She assures us that she'll be back in July; keep your eyes on the Swirlydoos Forums for the update.

Hey everyone, I'm back with my full reveal of projects created with the Swirlydoos May *Spring Grunge* monthly kit. This kit is so jammed packed with the gorgeous papers from Prima and Blue Fern Studios. You have to get one, if you don't already subscribe. Here is a look at this gorgeous kit and add-ons again;
May kit full 2017

My first layout is based on the monthly sketch challenge.

Here is the sketch again:
May sketch 2017

Here is my take on the sketch. This kit is full of beautiful papers with wonderful textures and my favorite colors of pinks and corals. This is an older photo of me taken on a fall photo shoot.

The kits and add-ons are jam-packed, so I used very few things from my stash. A piece of metal, a stamp and the resin mushroom. I kept the layout very simple to show off the texture in the paper and my stamping.
May 2017 sketch

Next up is another layout. This one was created for the "All that Flutters" challenge. It's a challenge to create a layout/project using anything that has wings i.e butterflies, dragonflies, bees, angels you get the picture.
I started with the Blue Fern Studios paper and chipboard dangle from the kit.  Then I grabbed some extra chipboard, lace, cheesecloth, glitter glass and the small coral flowers from my stash. I really love how this one turned out.

Next up is another layout.. I created this using a photo I found on the internet (don't know who to credit the photo).
I had so much fun creating this.I did some masking, stamping and misting on the background. I add lots of art stones and glitter glass to this once I was done.  A few of the  flowers for this came from my stash.
  May 2017 reveal

Next up is my tag for the Project Add on. I kept it pretty and simple. I primed the tag with some white gesso, once dry, I used the molding paste from the mixed media kit. For my color, I used distress crayons we got in a past project/tech kit. I used a water brush to blend the colors. The swirl was made using a prima mould and ice resin we got in another past project/tech kit.
I added a few small flowers and the butterfly, topped it with some black splatters (black gesso and water) and title chippy. DONE!
May 2017 project

That's all I have for now, so thanks for stopping by. Hello! Hope you are enjoying your latest Swirlydoos kit. I loved the Prima papers and flowers.

The sketch created by Kim was another work of art too.
Here's the sketch for the May kit.

Here's my interpretation using some tiny prints of my little fluff ball, Jax.

For this one, I changed the color of the metal gate with Prima wax.

Just a few close ups.

See how you can change the color with the Prima waxes?

I added some micro-beads to the flowers and draped the "love" necklace over the flowers.

More pretty Rose Quartz papers.

Here's a few pictures of the OTP project that was in the technique add on.

What's really cool about this project is the fact that the heavy door plate on the left perfectly counterbalances the weight on the right side. This means that the piece can be hung from the left tag hole and will hang straight!

Here's a close up so you can see the texture created with the Tim Holtz mini tag stencil and modeling paste.

Had to add some Prima art stones and pearls.

The video tutorial is available on Swirlydoos Youtube channel.

Here's a mini pop up album made with some of the scraps from the kit.

Ok, so here's a few more layouts for you.

The first is a grunge layout.

A few close ups.

Aaand, my last one.

These are Design Team projects I created for Swirlydoos Scrapbook Kit Club. What a way to celebrate Spring - Swirlydoos' Spring Grunge Kit and Add-Ons are packed full of gorgeous colors, elegant embellishments (with a bit of fun thrown in!) and, as always, the opportunities to create several OTP projects.

I started with the sketch (did you know that every Swirlydoos Kit comes with an original sketch created by Swirlydoos Designer Kim Heard?), the Chance sheet from Blue Fern Studios' Happy Accident collection and this wonderful photo of my parents from 1941. To create a bit of interest in the background, I rubbed the Viva Decor Inka Gold from the Mediums Add-On though one of the Tim Holtz Mini Stencils that came in the Project Kit. I chose to back my image with a journaling card from the Embellishment Add-On and the Darice gate that was included in the Main Kit. The Blue Fern Studios chippie (also from the Embellishment Add-On) was treated with the Inka Gold and then slightly inked to give it an aged look. I finished it all with blooms from the Flower Add-On and some vines cut with the Die of the Month (Monterey Vine by Poppystamps) that I treated with the Liquid Leaf from the Mediums Add-On.

Here is the sketch.

And my layout...

And a few closeups...

- a monthly chance to show off some of your collection of butterflies, dragonflies, bees, ladybugs, birds, fairies and anything else that well, flutters. Each month, there is a different theme; this time, it's all about men

Here is the layout that I created as an example This is my father's high school yearbook photo, taken in 1936, scrapped with the new "Spring Grunge" kit and add-ons, full of pinks and grays and black tones, perfect for a more masculine layout.

I've added some background interest by applying the DecoArt wax through the Tim Holtz Harlequin stencil onto the Wood Background paper. Next, I tore the Stone Quartz sheet. A full 12" strip was adhered just above the center of the page. I further tore some of the remainder to create several layers of matting beneath my photo. I added some drywall tape from my stash down one side and on the bottom and embellished it all with flowers, stickers and a pennant from the Gems and Paper Clips package.

I took one of the two dangles from the chipboard package and primed it with black gesso. When it was dry, I lightly went over it with the same DecoArt wax that I used with the stencil, being careful to let a lot of the black show through. Lastly, I glued the necklace from the main kit on top, drew the chain up and over the paper and taped it to the back. (I cut off the unused chain, saving it for later.)

 Some closeups...

This picture of a six-year-old me is wrong in so many ways. I'm facing the sun and either I'm squinting or my eyes are shut. The shadows on my face are so sharp that my nose and mouth are distorted. Most of all (and this has nothing to do with the sun), there is my hair. Now, I was born with baby-fine, straight hair and it has stayed this way all of my life. Back in the day, the solution for this was the Tonette Children's Home Permanent, which left my hair so very, very frizzy for the first few weeks.

I was reminded of this photo a few weeks ago when I was at a gathering of scrappy friends and somehow the Tonette Permanent came up in conversation. I mentioned that I had this photo and that someday I was going to scrap it. Well, "someday" is now; the "Spring Grunge" Kit from Swirlydoos comes with papers and embellishments that are just so pretty. I've taken advantage of the pinks and grays and bits of blue (that match my dress) to create a setting for my not-so-lovely, but still perfectly girly photo.

I've created a tutorial on Snapguide; here's the link.https://snapguide.com/guides/create-a-layout-with-the-spring-grunge-main-kit/

And here are a couple of closeups.

The Spring Grunge Project Kit comes with two of the new (and  incredible!) Tim Holtz Hardboard Tags. I've created this piece of Home Decor with the larger tag, the backplate from the Embellishment Add-On and a photo that I took last Summer in New Orleans' French Quarter.

Some closeups...

A few blooms from the Flower Add-On...

Dry brushing with the Finnabair Metallique paints that came with the Project Kit...

A Prima Memory Hardware pull from my stash, altered to match the backplate...
