What a way to
celebrate Spring - Swirlydoos' Spring Grunge Kit and Add-Ons are packed full of
gorgeous colors, elegant embellishments (with a bit of fun thrown in!) and, as
always, the opportunities to create several OTP projects.
I started with the
sketch (did you know that every Swirlydoos Kit comes with an original sketch
created by Swirlydoos Designer Kim Heard?), the Chance sheet from Blue Fern
Studios' Happy Accident collection and this wonderful photo of my parents from
1941. To create a bit of interest in the background, I rubbed the Viva Decor
Inka Gold from the Mediums Add-On though one of the Tim Holtz Mini Stencils
that came in the Project Kit. I chose to back my image with a journaling card
from the Embellishment Add-On and the Darice gate that was included in the Main
Kit. The Blue Fern Studios chippie (also from the Embellishment Add-On) was
treated with the Inka Gold and then slightly inked to give it an aged look. I
finished it all with blooms from the Flower Add-On and some vines cut with the
Die of the Month (Monterey Vine by Poppystamps) that I treated with the Liquid
Leaf from the Mediums Add-On.
Here is the
sketch.
And my layout...
And a few
closeups...
I'm now hosting
the ATF (All That Flutters) Challenge at Swirlydoos
- a monthly
chance to show off some of your collection of butterflies, dragonflies, bees,
ladybugs, birds, fairies and anything else that well, flutters. Each month,
there is a different theme; this time, it's all about men
Here is the
layout that I created as an example This is my father's high school yearbook
photo, taken in 1936, scrapped with the new "Spring Grunge" kit and
add-ons, full of pinks and grays and black tones, perfect for a more masculine
layout.
I've added some
background interest by applying the DecoArt wax through the Tim Holtz Harlequin
stencil onto the Wood Background paper. Next, I tore the Stone Quartz sheet. A
full 12" strip was adhered just above the center of the page. I further
tore some of the remainder to create several layers of matting beneath my
photo. I added some drywall tape from my stash down one side and on the bottom
and embellished it all with flowers, stickers and a pennant from the Gems and
Paper Clips package.
I took one of
the two dangles from the chipboard package and primed it with black gesso. When
it was dry, I lightly went over it with the same DecoArt wax that I used with
the stencil, being careful to let a lot of the black show through. Lastly, I
glued the necklace from the main kit on top, drew the chain up and over the
paper and taped it to the back. (I cut off the unused chain, saving it for
later.)
Some closeups...
This
picture of a six-year-old me is wrong in so many ways. I'm facing the sun and
either I'm squinting or my eyes are shut. The shadows on my face are so sharp
that my nose and mouth are distorted. Most of all (and this has nothing to do
with the sun), there is my hair. Now, I was born with baby-fine, straight hair
and it has stayed this way all of my life. Back in the day, the solution for
this was the Tonette Children's Home Permanent, which left my hair so very,
very frizzy for the first few weeks.
I
was reminded of this photo a few weeks ago when I was at a gathering of scrappy
friends and somehow the Tonette Permanent came up in conversation. I mentioned
that I had this photo and that someday I was going to scrap it. Well,
"someday" is now; the "Spring Grunge" Kit from Swirlydoos
comes with papers and embellishments that are just so pretty. I've taken
advantage of the pinks and grays and bits of blue (that match my dress) to
create a setting for my not-so-lovely, but still perfectly girly photo.
I've
created a tutorial on Snapguide; here's the link.https://snapguide.com/guides/create-a-layout-with-the-spring-grunge-main-kit/
And
here are a couple of closeups.
The
Spring Grunge Project Kit comes with two of the new (and incredible!) Tim Holtz Hardboard Tags. I've
created this piece of Home Decor with the larger tag, the backplate from the
Embellishment Add-On and a photo that I took last Summer in New Orleans' French
Quarter.
