Forever Friends

© Amber S. Pence

The friendship we have is so rare to find,
We hate to see each other in a bind.
We have made each other laugh so hard we've cried,
We feel each other's pain if we are hurt inside.
We always can find the right words to say,
To help us get through any dreadful day.
We have told our darkest secrets, with feeling no shame,
We will tell each other the truth even if we are to blame.
Thinking of you not being here makes me feel so sad,
We will have to look back on our crazy memories to make us glad.
The Miles between us can't keep us apart,
Because we will keep each other close at heart.

This week we bring you a special layout that was inspired by our current Round Robin Challenge. Scrapping about your best friend. Patti tells us that the photo is of Patti and her oldest and dearest friend Jane, taken back in the early to mid eighties which explains the crazy hairdo and god awful glasses.. Patti loves this picture of her and Jane because it shows just how much fun they used to have together just sitting on the stoop in her parents backyard. For those of you who dont know what a stoop is, it is a set of concrete stairs that lead from a front or back door...(It's a Brooklyn thing!!!) Now that we know a little of the history, we love it too.
Patti used an Swirlydoos older spotlight kit created with Prima product and the Pastiche collection. The scallop circle is an older Technique Tuesday chippie that we got in a kit a couple of years ago. She used Gilders Paste in antique gold and lightly added some Patina over it. Patti also used a Kaisercraft wood gate and altered it with the same Gilders Paste colors. The flowers are Prima, and were in her stash unopened until she did this beautiful layout. She even broke out some Distress Stickles and added to the bodies of the butterflies that were punched with the MS punches. Well we think this layout is special. Special in meaning and special because it is beautifully crafted. Congrats Patti. We love this one!!

Journaling can be difficult to add to a page. Somehow, it seems, for me at least, that there is rarely a great spot in my page designs. But, Kaisercraft helps solve this problem with their journal tags. The designs are elegant and enhance your sentiments, like these tags that coordinate with their "Bonjour" line:

And, journaling is only one way you can use them. They are decorative enough to add to a page without putting anything on them, or even use them as layers on any project, such as a card. Each booklet has multiples of each design.

Lisa V, talented design team member, used one of these tags as a place for the title of her layout:

Here, Angelica, also on the design team, added two tags for layers, matting her photo:

And, here is one page by subscriber EFI, that beautifully showcases her journaling:

Congrats, EFI! Because your layout was featured using this weeks product, you will receive 10% off of your purchase in the Swirlydoos store!

And, these tags are offered to everyone today at 10% off. You can click here to purchase!

Inspiration!
Where do you find your inspiration?
It is a question I get asked a lot, and I often say that inspiration is all around us.
Today I found a better way to explain where I draw my inspiration from.
I was cleaning up and threw some scraps of paper onto my counter, on top of that I threw some embellies, twine and scraps of lace. I tossed it all around and when it fell down I took a picture.

Do you see what I see???

Needless to say, that cleaning was off!!
It was time to use these beautiful scraps and create some tags!

I challenge you all to:
just throw your scraps at your table, throw some embellies on it, some twine and lace and shake it up a little. THEN see how it falls down. Take a picture of it, and start to create with the picture in front of you... You will be amazed with what you come up with.
Have Fun!!!

Remember that the signs up, for the *Round Robin for Cards* are (still) open to everyone.
Subscribers and non-subscribers. We will welcome you with open arms!

Ever wonder why God gives us two?
A right hand to show the left what to do.
One ear to listen and one to hear
the problems of others,
their laughter and fears.
One eye to watch and one to behold
the beautiful treasures
that life has to hold.
One foot to travel and one to stand tall.
Two feet to land on if we should fall.
One man to stand by a woman's side;
One woman to cherish being his bride.
The love between partners
comes shining through
and that is the reason
God has made two.

For those of you who do not know, our Jan just got married. And her last few layouts have been created around some of her beautiful wedding photo's. This multi photo layout is no exception. They capture a series of events right before our eyes. And talk about a fairytale..This is how Jan tells us how the day began.

"Some pictures of our surprise wedding 9-8-12. We invited our friends and family to what they thought was a housewarming party and engagement dinner. After the DJ arrived we announced that the engagement was off because we were getting married in one hour. Everyone was asked to bring nice clothes for the evening dinner so they all changed while we got ready for the wedding. For our grand entrance, we rode Roger's Big Dog Chopper. Apparently, we are the talk of the neighborhood because all the neighbor ladies saw me riding the motorcycle in my wedding dress! We had a perfect day!"

How flippin awesome is that!! What else can I say about this beautiful layout except that the stamping, misting, and composition are simply divine!!
Congrats Jan, may you and Roger live happily ever after!!

GRANDPARENTS

Grandparents bestow upon their grandchildren
The strength and wisdom that time
And experience have given them.

Grandchildren bless their Grandparents
With a youthful vitality and innocence
That help them stay young at heart forever.

Together they create a chain of love
Linking the past with the future.
The chain may lengthen,
But it will never part..

Our gorgeous heritage layout this week was created by Sherri. Sometimes those old black and white photo's are the most striking, and by adding a little punch of color around them, it brings out their real beauty as it did in this LO with that vibrant yellow! Love how cutting out the diamond design adds to the texture of the page so easily. Tucking in the flower petals here and there gives the appearance of an old textile trim. It is amazing how an accent color can go a long way in showcasing the beauty of a page. Beautiful work Sherri!! What a beautiful way to display such a wonderful photo. This one is a Keepsake...

Well I'm not braggin babe so don't put me down
But I've got the fastest set of wheels in town
When something comes up to me he don't even try
Cause if I had a set of wings man I know she could fly
She's my little deuce coupe
You don't know what I got

Beach Boys

Our pick this week is a wonderful layout created by Jeannie. You may know her at SB.com as Dollscrap. First off, the fabulous black and white photo is a perfect compliment to the beautiful colors in the layout. Jeannie's mother is in the middle with her older sister and their mother in the drivers seat around 1941. What an awesome photo to treasure. The three of them are gorgeous!! The layering of the papers and labels is a perfect balance to the design. Love how the black matting sets them apart but brings it all together. The floral cluster is the perfect color blend of flowers. Love how they drape the photo in beauty and ends with a hanging velvet trinket. The sweet punched butterfly is all dolled up with a flower and pearls. Just the little bit of edge distressing gives this layout a nostalgic look. This one is special Jeannie. We love it!

There’s no one else like you. You truly are unique.
The thoughts inside your head and the words inside your speak.
Only you and no one else could ever be so rare.
Not a soul in the whole wide world can quite compare.
Remarkable and special, specific peerless too
Un-repeated and exclusive, distinctive that is you
But here’s the thing (and I sure hope you know I mean in fun)
Yes, you are unique of course, but so is everyone!

This week we bring you a beautiful Layout my Misha. The very feminine page is embraced with pink flowers and pearls. A little girls most favorite things!! We love the cluster of flowers with each one being so different and giving the cluster dimension. The layering is perfect and the softness if the frills and distressing give the page movement. Love the way you framed the sweet photo. And using the words in the paper is perfect for a title, when one is lost for the right words. Perfect!! You have used this kit beautifully!! We love it!!
What would Swirlydoos be without our wonderful subscribers. It's a pleasure getting to know these ladies on the forums and from the stories they tell through their layouts. Yes,we are an amazing community, but most of all, we're a family! We appreciate each and every member and they deserved to be spotlighted. With that being said, our featured member for September is.....

  Kathi Simmons

Here's a bit about Kathi.

I started scrapping in 2002 a friend took me to a CM home party and I was hooked. It didn't take me long to realize that I didn't care for white backgrounds or cutout photos. I discovered a LSS and everything changed. I was basically a flat scrapper until I found Swirlydoos thanks to Robin aka Robinberdz on SB.C.

I have been a member of Swirlydoos since the very first kit and it has changed my style dramatically. I am now definitely a chunky scrapper. I love flowers ribbon, punches all things 3D. I guess I would call my style Shabby chic meets soft grunge

I have found this club to be both educational and inspirational. It's members are delightful and helpful. I have made some very good friends through these forums.

These are a few of my favorite layouts and projects that Kathi has added to our gallery. Let me tell you, it was hard to chose!!!
