We
have a great Guest Designer for April. I want to introduce her and
let her tell you a little about herself. We are so
excited to have her designing for us this month.
Swirlydoos
would like to welcome our very own Swirly Sister Peggy Giovanetti as our April Guest Designer. Please give her a warm welcome.
Here is a little bit about me:
1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a 69 year old lady living in Central New Jersey, the mother of three grown
sons and the grandmother of three, who you've met through a lot of my layouts:
Sophia, who is going on 7 and the 2-1/2 year-old twins, Vincent and Nicholas.
2. When did you start
scrapping? Why? I started scrapping in 2008, as a way to fill my free time. One
of my sisters makes beautiful theme albums and I thought I'd give it a try.
Long story short, I was obsessed with a line of paper that I saw advertised in
one of the print scrapbook magazines and that I couldn't find locally. An
online search led me to SBC and THAT led me to an entire new way of scrapping,
using design, mediums, embellishments and (most importantly to me) my
imagination!
3. When did you join Swirlydoos?
I'm actually one of the Charter Members; I signed up for the first kit - Divine
Decadence - in February, 2009 and have been a member ever since!!!
4. What's you favorite thing
about Swirlydoos kit/forum? Well, that's a tough one, because there's more than
one answer. As I mentioned, I love being able to use my imagination and
Krissy's combinations of papers and embellishments and mediums and doo-dads are
guaranteed to get the creative juices flowing! And then there are the forums,
made up of a group of incredibly caring and supportive women who love to share
their knowledge.
5. Tell us about how your kit
process? How do you get started using your kit? Well, the first thing I do is
open the paper, examining both sides from every possible angle, taking in the
colors and the designs. Next, I go through the embellishments, again examining
them and putting them side by side. I very rarely have anything ready to scrap
each month (unless I've arranged for Krissy to hold my kit until we meet up at
a Swirly Camp in Colorado). I spend the evening and the next morning thinking
about the photos that I have, selecting the ones that will be
"perfect". By the way, by "perfect", I'm not necessarily
talking about colors; it's more about the mood of the images and the papers, if
that makes sense.
6. How would you define your
scrappy style? Well, I guess "Shabby Chic" is the box that I'd
usually check, but I'm really all over the place, trying to experiment with
styles and mediums. I will say that I'm more of a minimalist in some ways: As
much as I love (and try to emulate) the layouts with lots of detail, I usually
end up with a "less is more" look to my work.
7. We hear you are a fast scrapper,
tell us about your scrappy process. Fast? Well, once I get started… I always
have a design in my head before I begin, with the photo and papers already
chosen. I take out the embellishments that I think I may use and start playing
around with them until I'm satisfied. Next, come the mixed media and the
stencils and stamps - just enough to give my background a little
"something", followed by a hunt through my dies and punches for a bit
more inspiration. I then start assembling my layout, trying out different ways
to mat my photo and at that point, I decide how much distressing I want to do.
Lastly, comes the fun part: flowers and metals and trims, oh my!!!!
Anything you would like to share? Swirlydoos is
like a family to me, full of incredible women, so many of whom I'm happy and
proud to call "friend". Through the sharing and encouragement of you
all, I've discovered an unknown creative streak which has given me a pleasure
second only to the moments that I can share with my fellow Swirly Savages…

Awesome! So excited to see Peggy is the guest designer! Can't wait to see you beautiful creations, Peggy!
Yay, Peggy! Now everyone is gonna know why I thought you were so ornery on the Announcement thread!
On another note; Purple Haze. It's reminding me of Purple Rain & Prince.
Yay! Congrats Peggy! Your work is incredible! Looking forward to seeing what you did with this kit!
Welcome to Peggy.

WTG Peggy! Can't wait to see what you have created with the kit!
Jan, I had thought the same with the 'purple' thing and Prince!
Thanks so very much all!!!
I just hope that you all will think that I've done this remarkable kit justice when I post my projects on Friday.
