Welcome to Saturday, that's always a good day and here at Swirlydoos Kit Club blog we have a tutorial for you every Saturday!
Today we're going to build a tag with the Swirlydoos September kit, Vintage Love, that features Prima Time Traveler Memories. Here's the tag we'll be making.
Glue the circle underneath the opening in the chipboard frame and then add glue all over. I've used Aleene's Tacky Glue, you can use any glue that dries clear.
Cut a piece of cardboard to fit underneath the above piece and glue to the backside.
Adhere a piece of Tim Holtz film strip ribbon (from an earlier kit this year) in the center of the tag as shown at the top and bottom. The bottom piece is about 1.5" long and the top piece is about 2" long.
Sorry, I missed photographing my first layer. It's a rectangular Spellbinders frame cut from the dark wine paper, The Traveler. It hardly shows so you can easily leave this out or use a simple border cut at the top and the bottom of the card. Adhere the floral piece with the oval center over the frame about 2.5" from the top.
Arrange and adhere the embellishments as shown.
Did you know that Swirlydoos Kit Club sends out beautifully coordinated kits every month? Swirlydoos has been sending out top of the line and ever so elegant kits all over the world since 2009. I love getting a box of goodies that all work together so that I don't have to go out and search for things that coordinate. So many bricks and mortar shops have closed up that it's getting harder and harder to find a place stocking all the latest and greatest scrapbook goodies. While Michael's and Hobby Lobby are great for supplies, you sure can't find the newest papers and embellishments in those stores.
If you are interested in receiving Swirlydoos monthly kits, please visit Swirlydoos Kit Club and click on Join Our Club on the left side bar. Be sure to mention my name, Maggi, when you subscribe because you will receive a 10% discount on your first kit AND a coupon for 30% off an entire purchase in the Swirlydoos store. Your Swirlydoos store purchases are always shipped free when shipped along with your monthly kit.
Today we're going to build a tag with the Swirlydoos September kit, Vintage Love, that features Prima Time Traveler Memories. Here's the tag we'll be making.
First you will need to create your tag; I simply traced around a Graphic 45 tag that I had laying around but you can easily cut a tag, it is 4"W x 8.5" L.
I used that wonderful Blue Fern Studios chipboard piece that came in the September Swirlydoos main kit and embossed it with Stampendous Aged Ivory embossing enamel.
Next select and cut out the 3 pieces you see below from the Love Affair paper. Note that I have fussy cut around the bottom piece on the right and rounded the corners on the top left piece. Distress and ink the edges as desired.
Then cut a circle just slightly larger than the chipboard frame opening. We will be covering the circle with mica so it does not matter which paper you use.
Glue the circle underneath the opening in the chipboard frame and then add glue all over. I've used Aleene's Tacky Glue, you can use any glue that dries clear.
Now fill the circle with Stampendous Vintage mica chips that came in the September main kit. Press the mica into the glue and shake off the excess.
While the mica is drying, let's work on the tag. Take the fussy cut piece shown below:
If you got the September Embellishments Kit take the self adhesive pearls and adhere around the edge of the tag. If you don't have these pearls, you could glue on a black bead string or use liquid pearls.
Now glue the piece with the cardboard backing about 1.5" from the top so that the bottom of the previous layer shows.
Add the Blue Fern chipboard piece centering on the tag. Then you can add a sentiment across the mica. I've used a "Hello" sticker from my stash.
Now its time for embellishments! I've chosen flowers, leaves, and a butterfly from the Signature Flower Kit. The little ticket and clock charm are from the main kit and the clock is fussy cut from the Love Affair paper.
Arrange and adhere the embellishments as shown.
Punch a hole at the top and add ribbon/string. That's all there is to it and now you've got a pretty tag that you can add to a gift or even use it as a card. I always tage care to keep my back clean so that I can write a personal note on the back.

Gorgeous!!!! I love all of the layers & details and the overall rustic elegance of this tag!!!
Thanks for this wonderful tute!!!!
I decided to try this tonight, Maggie. I'll post a photo of my rendition. I could not find my mica chips... they are hiding somewhere, but I'll find them! Instead I used some Stampin'Up glitter called Champagne Glass, that I've had in my stash for a year or so and never used!
You post tutorials of the most intriguing ideas! Thanks!
This so beautiful Maggie. Inspiring. Thanks for the tutorial!! Mary (Abbygirl sb.com)
You make it he best tags. Great tutorial, very easy to follow.
I love your tag. I have just started "tags" and I either add too little to them. But yours is perfect...so I will try to find my happy place now that I have your wonderful example. Thank you for sharing the process.
