What would Swirlydoos be without our wonderful subscribers?!? It's a pleasure getting to know these ladies on the forums and from the stories they tell through their layouts. Yes,we are an amazing community, but most of all, we're a family! We appreciate each and every member and they deserved to be spotlighted. With that being said, our featured member for April is.....
Here is a bit about Kim:
*Kim Heard*
My name is Kimberly (Droopidog) Heard. I’ve been married for
19 yrs and we have no children. Because it’s just the 2 of us we are able to
travel as often as we like. Most of my scrappy subjects are of us and some of
our travel adventures. I also have an assortment of older photos of my family
and dh family, so those make it on to some layouts quite often. As well as our
assortment of nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
I started scrapping in 2001, after my mom died. My sister
took all the photos that my mom had. So if I wanted any, I had to get them
copied. I had all these copies of photos and didn’t know what to do with them.
I had a friend that was into scrapbooking so I called her. Once I did my first
page, I was hooked.
I’ve been a member of Swirlydoos since Oct. 2009. I found
Swirlydoos through a link on a blog and when I saw the kits I knew they were
for me. Then I started lurking in the forums and realized that this was a fun
place to hang out. I eventually joined the round robin challenge and haven’t looked
back.
My style has evolved since joining Swirlydoos. My pages can
go from shabby chic to vintage romantic to simple elegance. However, I will
admit that I do struggle with masculine layouts, because for me a layout isn’t
complete without flowers and bling.
Like any good scrapper, I am never without my camera and am
always looking for an opportunity to take scrap worthy pictures. Please visit

Hey Swirly gals! Miranda here with a fun technique / tutorial to share with you all today. As you know I am a lover of grunge! Every week one of our designers stalks our gallery to find a layout that inspires them. The layout gets a chance at winning the Layout of the Month.
Our designers have a very difficult task when it comes to voting for the Layout of the Month. More often than not, we have a tie and then have to call in the BIG GUNS (aka Sweet Krissy) to be the tie breaker.
This month was soooooooooooo close!!!!! Without further adieu.....our February Layout of the Month winner is our very own Kathi Simmons!!!!
ummmm.....no words......LADIES, wipe the drool off of your keyboards and dear God please don't be driving and looking at this on your phones! Holy GORGEOUS!!!!
The color is uh-mazing, the subtle use of molding paste is beautiful, the cracked glass technique is off the hook and the pulled back corner should be outlawed!

Every week at Swirlydoos one of our Designers pours through our user gallery and looks for a layout that inspires them in some way.
It was my turn this week. The pure and simple beauty of this page just pulled me right in. This gorgeous page was created by Swirlydoos member Barbara Pollack.
I really love it when a scrapbook artist uses their background paper as a jumping off point and creates their story using embellishments that enhance and add to the paper; making the story come to life and feel seamless. Almost bottomless.
Barbara did just that with her page she titled "In flight.." and she created it for Angelica's monthly Butterfly Challenge.
Congratulations Barbara!!! Your layout will be given a shot at Layout of the Month!!! Each Layout of the Month winner is entered into a chance to win Layout of the Year!! Keep your fingers crossed.

We are positively THRILLED to announce the winner of the very first Swirlydoos Ultimate Design Team Challenge! This was a rigorous six week multi-medium technique challenge, wherein paper crafters from around the globe were given weekly challenges meant to rock them to their very core and yank them right out of their comfort zones! These ladies worked with a barrage of mediums new to scrapbooking, and had to find new and creative ways to implement those mediums into specific design requirements. 55+ talented scrapbookers entered this contest, making it a living nightmare for our design team to judge. In the end, only ONE of those talented scrapbookers could come out as our Ultimate Design Challenge winner.
The winner of the very first Swirlydoos Ultimate Design Challenge is...
KATHI SIMMONS
Kathi inspired us greatly with her beautiful projects, her eye for detail, and the ways in which she took the challenge ideas and made them her own. Here are the projects Kathi created and turned in for each of the six technique challenges issued.
As our Ultimate Design Challenge winner, Kathi won an incredible scrappy prize filled with hundreds of dollars in paper crafting goodness.
She was also offered a spot on our extremely talented design team, but politely declined the position because she didn't feel she could work within the deadlines our designers face. We thank her genuinely for her honesty in that! Nonetheless, Kathi remains as our UDC CHAMP, and a well deserved victory it was!

These lovely Embellished Easter eggs will last a lifetime (as long as you don't break it!!!)
HAPPY EASTER TO ALL OF OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY!
I can't seem to make this image any larger. You can right click to save to your computer if you'd like. The instructions under the last photo read, "Put your mouth to the small hole to create a seal, and blow the insides [of the egg] out through the larger hole, then EMBELLISH!!!
These eggs can be painted, inked, stained or dyed. You can use rubons, bling or a whole host of other scrappy goodies on your egg. We would love to see what you come up with, please share with us on our blog, facebook, or forums!
Happy Saturday to you all! I 'd like to share a tutorial on how to create a faux patina finish on your chipboard using Distress Stains and other media. Here's a picture that I took of some pieces I did, but really, a picture cannot capture the exact look!
