Here is a tutorial I did a few weeks ago. Thought I'd share it here...............
Distressed Rose Tutorial
Here is the steps I took to make the large rose on my last lo. This is very close to the Coffee Filter Roses Tutorial that Lisa (StarSailorScrapper) did, over at Swirlydoos.
Here is what you will need
You will have 19 hearts. You can use diecuts, stencils I used my Cricut.
5 - 2' 4 - 1 1/2' 4 - 1 1/4' 6 - 1' HEARTS. You can change the sizes to make smaller roses, add more or less depending on the fullness you want. For this rose, I used the exact sizes above.
Now begin distressing the edges of your hearts. I used my Zutter, but you could use other distress tools or scissors. Carefully run the edges through the Zutter.
You have your distressed hearts.
Now make a straight cut down the center of the heart at it's peak.
Where you cut, rough up your straight edge slightly using you scissors.
Next gather all your hearts, according to size and punch them now. Do not punch them before you distress them. During the process of distressing, the holes are more likely to tear. Punch them all together, so that the holes all line up.
Next ink your edges with distress ink.
Start layering your hearts on the brad. Inked side down, starting with 4 small hearts, inked side facing down. When you have the 4 small ones on, start adding all the other hearts smallest to biggest size. Set aside 2 of your 1' hearts.
Here's what you will have when your done.
Now start shaping your rose.
You'll have something like this, when your finished.
Now take your 2 lonely hearts you set aside, and curl them together to fill out your center.
Add a little drop of glue, then you will want to snip the bottom off.
Add the small piece you just made, to the center of the rose. Once your done getting the layers to look close to what you want, spray your whole rose with glimmermist. After your mist dries a bit, you can continue to arrange your petals. When your done this is what you will have.
Depending on the weight of the cardstock you decide to use, it will appear different. I used heavier weight cardstock and this rose appears to be thicker and more bulky looking, then the peach rose I just did on my last lo. That cardstock was thinner, and gives it a different look. Using the Zutter will also add to it's thickness.
I hope you try this, you will be amazed with the results. It may looked complicated, but it's really not at all!!

Sometimes, those closeups in photos tell a story of their own...
This week, our LO comes from Pat Gent (GentlewoodFarms)..titled "Sometimes Life Just Speaks For Itself"...The photo is of Pats oldest daughter. The journaling she did is from the heart. This is what she journaled in an open letter to her daughter.
I wonder if you have any idea how much I love you. Can you even begin to imagine the concept? I love the dimple in your right cheek. I love your cute little chin. I love your heavy, thick, dark hair - even when you dye it purple. I love the sparkle in your eyes when you get ready to tell a funny story. I love the compassion you show for your friends. I love your energy, your enthusiasm, your total zest for life. I love the shape of your fingers and the length of your legs. I love each of your seventy-two inches of tall girly frame. I love watching you sleep. I love that you come in and hug me "just because." I love hearing about your day. I love that you call me on the phone, just to say, "hi." I love that you love horses as much as I do. I love that you love the outdoors. I love when you ask for the car keys because you always say please. I love that you're always hungry, and I love when you make dinner. I love that you still sit on my lap. I love you my number two daughter, and I hope that you know that you will always be number one in my heart.

Love the distressing Pat did so beautifully. Look at the sweet fan she created gathered from a strip of edge punched paper. The cut outs are beautiful as well as the stamping and the incredible flowers...The picture says it all, and the letter tells the story of the incredible love between a mother and daughter...
Thank you Pat for sharing such an intimate part of your life. You are an incredible mom...Sounds like you have an amazing daughter!!

During our first annual "CAMP SWIRLYDOOS RETREAT" we asked our attendees to create an altered project using Kaiser crafts MDF Storage drawers, Tim Holtz metal feet, and Tombow Ahdesives metal glue.
The projects they created were FABULOUS! And Tombow thought so too! Check out the feature these lucky girls got on the Tombow Blog!

On a *not-so-funny* side note, let me express to you how absolutely WONDERFUL the Tombow Metal glue really is. I had an example piece done for our campers which I lovingly set on the window sill for all to see what I had done with it.... Yeah, well our campers (Kathy C.) "accidentally" knocked my storage drawers out the window!
After MUCH hemming, hawing and photo taking (of course) they finally hauled my project back into the cabin - IN TACT. The metal pieces did not even come loose. How's that for adhesive?

With all of our love for vampires, and idols, and fairies, I give to you this weeks LOTW...It was created by swirly girlie Denise Jensen (keebler813)..Titled, "Those Eyes"...And it is a beauty!! Denise showed her photographic and editing skills when she did a photo shoot with her daughter and her daughters best friend in a vampire/ fairy theme!! The picture of the beautiful fairy is Denise's daughter. Denise added some Glossy Accents onto the butterflies..and it looks wrinkled as it isn't quite dry yet, but I absolutely love the effect!! The cluster of flowers with the "pop" of blue is just so pretty!! Then come those piecing blue eyes!! Fantastic!! She really does look magical!! The little bit of wing peeking out in the picture surely tells she is a sprite!! Cute, cute, cute!! Love the edge punched frame and the book plate title...Wonderful LO, Denise!!

"Hellloooo!!! Is there anybody out there?
Hello and welcome to my blog! I am not really sure what kind of direction this thing is going to take, but I am looking forward to figuring it out.
To summarize my life, I am a single woman with two grown children. My daughter, Brianna (Breezy), is 23 and she works in an underground mines in a government position. My son also works for the government but in a totally different way - he is in the Army. Kevin is 19 and is currently stationed in Bamburg, Germany.
I, myself, work for Armstrong Cable in a small department that handles the back-side of billing operations. I enjoy my job for the most part, but there are days....
I am an avid reader and I enjoy scrapbooking as well. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do and I love to cook and bake.
This about sums me up so I am going to head off for now. My son is supposed to call me on Skype in a few minutes and I want to get all set up. Gotta get that webcam operating, lol!"

Sounds like a pretty normal life to me!!! An all America normal family living an all American normal life!!!...But today, Leslies life is anything but normal. And I know she would not mind me sharing her story...
You see, Leslies life turned upside down in May of 2008 when she got shocking news about her son Kevin.
Kevin was in a NATO convoy driving through the city of Jalalabad in Afghanistan on May 31. A suicide bomber filled a vehicle with explosives and drove it into her son's Humvee. Leslie did not know that there were 4 people in the Humvee. Both her son and his battle buddy survived the blast - the other two did not. Kevin was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to a hospital in Jalalabad. He has since been flown back to Germany and is now on this way to San Antonio, TX to a military burn unit.
His injuries were extensive, they didn't know if he would make it.
That was the beginning of Leslie, Brianna, and Kevins life...It has been forever changed.
Leslie's story is one of war, courage, honor and love....Oh, the love...In honor of Kevin, and all those who serve our country to keep us safe...We salute you...We pray for you, and we too will defend your honor...

For those of you who will be receiving the Swirlydoos June kit, these butterflies will go beautifully!! Cant show the kit as it hasn't been revealed yet, but when I tell you it is gorgeous...Believe me!! Enjoy the butterflies. I print them up on a 5 x 7 piece of cream colored card stock, cut them out, and Stickle them with Rock Candy Stickles for old fashioned glitz...Just adding a little bit of diamond dust to the edges gives them an exquisite beauty. I have a special this week..I have these 2 wonderful LO's posted as LO of The Week. Trying to pick one was almost impossible for us. We could not choose between these 2, so we chose to show case them both..
The first one is a fabulous guy LO...We don't see these to often...And Bravo for using a flower, which by the way came out "To Die For"!!! Lovely!! Jennifer This is Jennifer's story about creating the flower...
"I am going to tell you a bit about my rose and my throwdown.....I spent about an hour on it. Hated it. Smashed it....went back to Tina's blog about 3 times. Tossed it in the trash. came back about an hour later and saved it.
Sprayed it with starch, smashed it more. Stuck it in the sun to dry for a few hrs. Cat batted it around on the floor for a bit. Then decided to glimmer mist it......
Next, to place it on the LO? Leave Off? On? OFF?
Family vote time (any of you do this?) - 2 vs 2. That means I am the tie breaker? sheesh...Finally son in photo put me in my place and said enough already with the flower thing. He has both teen angst and is bossy!"
The next beautiful LO "SHIPWRECK" is from Lisa (lisanovo). The colors, the layers, the design!! They just scream summer!!! We think this LO is worthy of a Magazine cover!! The photo's are of her adorable daughter Tahlia playing on the beach. There is so much intricate detail in this LO...You have to go visit Lisa's blog to get the instructions on how to make your own Prima inspired "Flower Stamen and natural center flower tutorial"!She did a wonderful job explaining in photo detail on how she made them!!
