Hey
Savages, Kim here. I am back with the May Edition of our Scrappy (happy) Space Spotlight.
If
you are anything like me, I love looking a scrap spaces. I love looking
at how people organize their supplies. I love to see how they decorate
their space. I just love looking.
Today
we have Swirly Savage forum member Maria Harms(Mharms). Maria has just added some new storage pieces to her space and is eager to show it off.
So without further ado, we will share some photos and a Q&A.
These first few photos show an over all view of Maria's room and how she has it all set up. Maria is lucky enough to have a few large (some custom) pieces of organizational furniture. Let's just get the ohhs and ahhs out of the way now.
Next up is Maria's E-Z View Desk by The Original Scrapbox (I'm starting to see a pattern). Don't you just love the see thru top on it? No wondering what you have when working at this desk. It's right in plain view. What about having all that storage space right there at your side, no getting up to get what you need.
LIONS and TIGERS and FLOWERS, OH MY!!! What scrapper wouldn't give their right arm for that stash of flowers? Plus it's all out there to see, no mistaking what you have there.
Here are some photos of Maria's newest piece. It's the Studio Tower also by the original scrapbox. It holds tons of paper and supplies. It's 4 sided and spins. Can you say LOVE!!

Next up we have her custom made cabinet. Isn't this a great piece for storage or even displaying your OTP projects?

Lastly, we have the first piece Maria got for her room. This is the Original Scrapbox and it hold a ton of Maria's supplies. This is where she whips out all those amazing cards she makes. Now we know why, she is just so darn organized.
Now let's hear from Maria on her room and organizational tips.
Q: When designing your room, did you have a theme in mind? Where did the inspiration for your overall design come from?
I had no idea what I wanted or how to design a scrap space until I started looking online at other rooms. Once I found The Original Scrapbox.com, I was hooked. I have always been a lover of drawers, bins and cubby holes so the Workbox was a dream come true. Then, we eliminated the dining room and converted it to my scrap room which was originally my dining room table and a folding table. Then, slowly, I was able to get the furniture I wanted. First the Workbox. Needed he big one because even though I had no space, I still had a lot of stuff. LOL. Then, the following year, the desk. This past Christmas I got the custom built cabinet which matches the rest almost perfectly (we even used some extra drawer pulls from the desk on the drawers in he cabinet). Then this Mother's Day I got the tower. Somewhere in between I was able to get the door insert for the Workbox, as well as the Ribbon Box.
Q: What's your favorite thing about having a dedicated space to scrap/craft?
It's mine, I don't have to share it with anyone else and I don't have to clean up kid project.
Q: What's your favorite piece of furniture or organizational piece in your space?
My all time favorite is the Workbox because it is just so functional and keeps me so organized. My current favorite is the paper tower. I mean, just look at that thing, it's awesome! It has also given me a great place to take photos of my completed projects.
Q: How is your room set up? By the way you craft, by color or by manufacturer?
All of the above. I have subcategories within subcategories. My Workbox is organized primarily by how I craft, then divided even further, some by manufacturer and some by color and then some by both. Hmmmm, I may be a little compulsive....
Q: Does your overall design work for you? If not, what would you change?
It works for the most part. I would like to add the mini Workbox so I have a place for a friend and a cutting station. And, I want to swap out all my tan bins for black ones because I like that combination better.
Q: What is your best design tip for someone just designing their space?
Do it well, it may cost you a bit more, but take the time to get quality, functional pieces.
Q: What else would you like to share about your scrap/craft space?
I am blessed to have a good job, a husband with a good job and the desire to spoil me. Without his support, the room wouldn't exist. Actually, he kind of created the monster...I was just dabbling in it when he saw a late night infomercial for a certain electronic die cutting machine and he told me about it...I wonder if he regrets that decision? LOL!
