Happy swirly Saturday all!!!
How gorgeous is this kit! Aren't these papers amazing?

If you received the tech kit then you are in for a treat with these wonderful mod melts from Mod Podge. The molds are amazing and the hot glue hardens to what LOOKS LIKE a resin...but it's not ;)

Today I'm going to show you three different ways to color the mod melts used in this layout:

and this layout created for the swirly girl challenge here:

 Enjoy the video!

The votes are in, and Linda SS is the August Layout of the Month!

We LOVED the design and the colors! The masking and the bling make this an incredible piece of art, and that SWEET little face makes it outstanding!

Congrats, Linda! Thank you for uploading your amazing page to our gallery.

Andiepants here to share with you the Swirlydoos layout of the week. I was absolutely floored by the amount of stamping and fussy cutting that went into this gorgeous piece by Erin Smetak.

I absolutely love the fact that she fit three photos on one layout and STILL kept so much elegance to the entire piece. Also, the use of the door in the upper corner as a single door was very original.

Congrats Erin!!!

What would Swirlydoos be without our wonderful subscribers?!? It's a pleasure getting to know these ladies on the forums and from the stories they tell through their layouts. Yes,we are an amazing community, but most of all, we're a family! We appreciate each and every member and they deserved to be spotlighted. With that being said, our featured member for September is.....

LaQuette Akins  AKA QT

Here is a bit about QT:

My name is LaQuette “QT” Akins. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 8 years and together we have 2 children.  I am an engineer by day and a scrapbooker at night. I have been indulging in all forms of art since I was a little girl. When planning my wedding, the idea of designing my own wedding invites lead me into my first scrapbook store ever.  I was amazed at all the products and papers that the store carried. That’s when I decided to investigate this craft of preserving pictures of my family.  My obsession with scrapbooking and cardmaking didn’t truly form until 2006 with the birth of my daughter. I was a SAHM at that time and wanted to preserve every sweet memory of my daughter life.

In 2009, with the birth of my son, my desire for a creative outlet grew stronger and I was able to manage scrapbooking and making invites on a more consistent basis. As I started following blogs, I ran across a blog post for Swirlydoos Kits and I fell in love. So I joined the Swirlydoos forums in November 2010 and by January 2011 I was subscribing faithfully to Swirlydoos. The members at Swirlydoos always made me feel so welcome and at home. I feel like I gained many friends and sisters while being a member and actively participating in the challenges.

I feel that my style is more Shabby Chic but it is forever growing and changing.  I love using different mediums on my projects while learning new techniques. Scrapbooking has truly become a part of my everyday life. I love to be inspired and love to inspire others as well with my work. Please visit my blog at any time:  lsadesigns.blogspot.com
Here are a some of my favorite projects of QT's, sure to inspire you!!

Please come back and visit every first Sunday of the month to see who our next featured member will be! We love our Swirlygirls!!

Happy Saturday to all of you lovely crafters! In the August Mediums Add-on kit we received Ferro from Viva Decor. If you've never used it before, you must get some! It's a thick metallic texture paste and it is the "in thing" to use with masks and stencils. Did you know that you can also use with stamps? Well, you can, and in this Saturday's video tutorial, I show you one way to incorporate this technique into your projects. Here is a tag I made with the green Ferro and the fence from the August main kit:

And a close up for more detail:

Here's another:

So check out the video tutorial:

Here are a couple of other projects I made with the Passion Berry kit:

"Just for You" Card

I had these scraps form some other projects I made with the kit. I added a doily that I misted with my favorite pink: Tattered Angels Vintage Pink. I also stuck in some cheesecloth remnants for a soft effect.

"Fashionista" Layout

I made this layout for Christy's SGC (Swirly Girl Challenge) this month. The challenge is to "transform" a sheet of paper using different media. Check out her challenge and all of the fabulous entries HERE. I loved every sheet of the paper in this kit, so I wasn't sure I wanted to transform it! This is an excellent challenge for getting messy, and I just couldn't pass up an opportunity like this, so thanks, Christy!

Here's a close up to see exactly how I transformed the paper:

I started by spreading a quick layer of Martha Stewart Crackle Medium and let it dry. It was a really thin coat and didn't result in any crackling, I was still happy with the texture it created. Next, I wiped a distress ink pad over it to tone down the starkness of the white medium. Next I used two mists: black Smooch spritz and Lindy's Stamp Gang teal. The sprayers on both mists clogged, so I just took them off and flicked the bottom of the nozzle and decided to embrace whatever would happen. I LOVE how the black came out! To finish the transformation of the paper, I used the pink Smooch ink that came in the kit on a script stamp roller.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my projects! Be sure to watch the video tutorial about the Ferro and stamping!

Have a wonderful weekend!
